Hello Folks,

I have a report that one of our members who I am aware of recieved a cut either from rolling on the mats or wherever else a cut can be obtained in our day to day life.

He has developed an infection and did the right thing to advise me of it. In response to his feedback, we must take full precautions. This means:

-Take a shower with soap before you come to class and after class
- secure all cuts
- bring first aid items with you in case we do not have enough in stock
- cut you toenails, fingernails
- keep up you grooming (hair especially)
- take a mult vitamin to maintain a healthy immune system
- wash your hands repeatedly throughout your day as you do not know the habit of others you come into contact with

Keep in mind that we are in the height of our allergy season and our immune system can get a blast even in the summertime and especially in winter. We can therefore be prone to infections at all times.

We currently mop the mats everynight, we clean the bathroom everyday and the garbage is taking out on a regular basis. Overall we keep a clean environment however, the ultimate factor is how we maintain our overall hygiene.

Extra precaution is better however, does not replace a strong cure.

Take Care!!!!!

Body hygiene

Body hygiene pertains to hygiene practices performed by an individual to care for one’s bodily health and well being through cleanliness. Motivations for personal hygiene practice include reduction of personal illness, healing from personal illness, optimal health and sense of well being, social acceptance and prevention of spread of illness to others.

Personal hygiene practices include: seeing a doctor, seeing a dentist, regular washing (bathing or showering) of the body, regular hand washing, brushing and flossing of the teeth, basic manicure and pedicure, feminine hygiene and healthy eating. Personal grooming extends personal hygiene as it pertains to the maintenance of a good personal and public appearance which need not necessarily be hygienic.

Body hygiene is achieved by using personal body hygiene products including: soap, hair shampoo, hair conditioner, toothbrushes, tooth paste, cotton swabs, deodorant, chapstick, cream, lotion, facial tissue, hair clippers, nail clippers, mouthwash, nail files, skin cleansers, razors, shaving cream, skin cream and toilet paper. Other personal body hygiene and grooming products can be used to improve health and well being.

Excessive body hygiene

The benefits of body hygiene are offset by the risks of excessive body hygiene which is hypothesized to cause allergic disease and bodily irritation.

Excessive body hygiene and allergies

Excessive body hygiene can cause allergies. The hygiene hypothesis states that a marked lack of early childhood exposure to infectious agents, and later a lack of exposure to helminths as adults, increases susceptibility to allergic diseases.[1]. The lack of exposure to these agents prevents the body from developing appropriate allergens and auto-immune responses.

Excessive body hygiene of external ear canals

Excessive body hygiene of the ear canals can result in infection or irritation. The ear canals require less body hygiene care than other parts of the body, because they are sensitive and the body system adequately cares for these parts. Attempts to clean the ear canals through the removal of earwax can actually reduce ear canal cleanliness by pushing debris and other foreign material into the ear that would otherwise have been removed by the natural movement of ear wax from the interior to exterior of the ear.

Excessive body hygiene of skin

Excessive body hygiene of the skin can result in skin irritation. The skin has a natural layer of oil, which protects the skin from drought. When washing, unless using aqueous creams, etc., with compensatory mechanisms, this layer is removed, leaving the skin unprotected. By this mechanism, excessive washing may eventually trigger eczema.

Excessive application of soaps, creams, and ointments can also adversely affect certain of the body's natural processes. For examples, soaps and ointments can deplete the skin of natural protective oils, and some substances can be absorbed and, even in trace amounts, disturb natural hormonal balances.

Hello Folks,

We were doing well for a minute however, someone has left their jock, jacket, underwear etc in the men's change room and trust me their not clean.

I will be throwing them out.

If their yours, call me at 905 336 1471.

There's also an individual who leaves brown paper towel on the bathroom sink - we are looking for you as everyone knows your garbage is always taken out to the main garbage area at the entrance.

I'm assuming it's a new person.

Great training yesterday folks! Everyone seems to be embracing the proper training culture. Both classes were consistent with the training philosophy.

Laughing

Janitor Steve, has a ring to it!

And don't forget to throw out all of your other trash. I cleaned up half a dozen water bottles left on the mats and change room this morning. There was also a shirt left on the mats, clothing on the floor in the mens room and the (now trashed) black mouth guard that has been sitting on the bench all week. Lets not get too "comfortable" with the club and keep in mind the image we want.

Stevo - you are not the only one who has had to fish out or plunger the toilet. I wish more people were more vocal on this so the litter bugs would stop.

Hello Folks,

This is a very important reminder!!!!

If your Gi smells, you will be taken off the mats.

If your nails (foot and hands) are not trimmed, you will not be permitted to participate in the class.

If you stink, you will not be able to participate in the class.

If you have a poor attitude, you will definitely not be able to participate in any class.

Any member has the right to refuse training with someone that can put them at risk of infection and or physical danger.

This is a viral time of the year and I know my senior members take pride in being clean however, some individuals think this does not apply to them. I will let you know that I will be taking a personal interest in these individuals and see to it that our dojo is cleansed of such contaminated mindsets quickly.

If you have mentioned this to someone and they still persist in being unclean, let me know and I will deal with it personally. There is no need for someone to work hard throughout their day and be disrespected by an unclean individual.

My e-mail is all over the place as I am a little upset with the whole hygiene situation.

I will be setting up a Fall cleaning before monthend. Let me know who can help.

Call me if you have concerns to report!!!

Amen - we have been a rash/infection free club and lets keep it that way. We have showers so use them before and after class if needed.

Fall Cleaning should be mandatory in my opinion. Let me know when and I'll be there with my french maid outfit on and feather duster (unless it's a Tuesday or Thursday Night)

Keep it clean!
