How Many Calories?
Ever wonder how many calories you need in order to loose 1 pound per week? Here are a few hints to help you achieve that goal!
The 5 R’s to healthy Weight Loss
1. Reduce Portion Size
2. Reduce Fat Intake
3. Reduce Alcohol Intake
4. Reduce Sugar Intake
5. Reduce jeopardize starches
CALCULATING FAT PERCENTAGE IN FOOD
Food manufactures want you to believe that their products contain less fat than they really do. For example, take 2% milk. It leads the average consumer to think that it only contains 2% fat. However, this actually means that fat makes up 2% of the total weight of the milk.
Need another example? If you were to put a whole stick of butter into a glass of water, the butter (fat) is only a tiny percentage of the total.
To measure the portion of calories that come from fat, you need to know the total calories per serving and the weight of fat per serving.
Example:
Brand X Breakfast Cereal: Total Calories per serving :378
Grams of fat per serving: 14
*There are 9 calories in a gram of fat, so...
14 x 9 = 126. This is one-third of 378, making this product 30% fat!
Try it on your favorite product! |
